Titanium dioxide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula TiO2. It is a white solid or powdered amphoteric oxide with a molecular weight of 79.866. It is non-toxic, has the best opacity, the best whiteness and brightness, and is considered to be the best white pigment in the world today. Titanium dioxide has strong adhesion, is not easy to undergo chemical changes, and is always snow-white. It is widely used in industries such as coatings, plastics, papermaking, printing inks, chemical fibers, rubber, and cosmetics. It has a high melting point and is also used to make refractory glass, glazes, enamels, clay, and high-temperature resistant experimental vessels. Titanium dioxide can be extracted from rutile by acid decomposition. Titanium dioxide exists in three allotropic forms in nature: rutile, anatase, and brookite, in addition to several artificially synthesized crystal forms.

Titanium dioxide is an inorganic component with excellent chemical stability, thermal stability, non-migration, strong color-reducing power, hiding power, low corrosiveness, good dispersibility, and is non-toxic, tasteless, non-irritating, safe to use, and has the function of sterilization and deodorization. More importantly, as mentioned above, nano-titanium dioxide can absorb ultraviolet rays, emit and scatter ultraviolet rays, so it has strong anti-ultraviolet ability. Compared with the same dose of organic anti-ultraviolet agents, its absorption peak in the ultraviolet region is higher; and nano-titanium dioxide has a blocking effect on ultraviolet rays in both the medium-wave region and the long-wave region.

Titanium dioxide can improve whiteness and hiding power. Due to its small particle size, it has high whiteness and hiding power. Adding nano titanium dioxide to the paint can significantly improve the whiteness and hiding power of the paint, making the coating more uniform, smooth and beautiful. Improve weather resistance: Nano titanium dioxide has good weather resistance and can effectively resist the erosion of environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays and acid rain.

Titanium dioxide is used as a colorant in the rubber industry, and also has the functions of reinforcement, anti-aging and filling. Adding titanium dioxide to white and colored rubber products will make them resistant to sunlight, not cracking or discoloring, with high elongation and acid and alkali resistance. Titanium dioxide for rubber is mainly used in automobile tires, rubber shoes, rubber floors, gloves, sports equipment, etc., and is generally anatase-based.

 

Titanium dioxide is widely used in high-quality paper applications such as decorative paper, banknotes, and Bible paper. Paper using titanium dioxide has the characteristics of good whiteness, high strength, light/thin and smooth, glossy, non-penetrating during printing, durable, not easy to fade, and high opacity.
